Personalized, evidence-based nutrition care from a registered dietitian — whether you're managing a health condition, healing your relationship with food, or chasing your next personal record.
About Dr. Reutzel
Dr. Katie Reutzel has been a Registered Dietitian and Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapist since 2008. Over her career she has helped clients manage chronic conditions, recover from eating disorders, and feed their families with confidence — and she brings that same depth of clinical experience to athletes looking to train harder and recover faster.
What sets her apart is training on both sides of the table: she is also a licensed mental health practitioner and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. Food is never just fuel — it's tied to stress, habits, culture, and how we feel about our bodies. Dr. Reutzel addresses all of it, so the plan you leave with is one you can actually live with.
Her approach is weight-inclusive and grounded in current research. You won't get a crash diet or a one-size-fits-all meal plan — you'll get practical, personalized guidance built around your health, your goals, and your life.
Looking for counseling? Dr. Reutzel also provides mental health counseling through K-Love Counseling.

Sports & Performance Nutrition
Training is only half the equation. Dr. Reutzel builds individualized fueling strategies that support endurance, strength, conditioning and recovery — for recreational athletes chasing a goal race and competitive athletes chasing a podium.

Daily carbohydrate, protein and energy targets that change with your training load — more on heavy days, less on rest days.

Pre-event meals, carb loading, in-race fueling by the hour, and a plan you've rehearsed in training — no guesswork on race morning.

Sweat-rate testing and a personalized fluid and electrolyte plan to prevent dehydration, cramping and over-drinking.

Protein and carb timing to rebuild muscle and restore glycogen, plus nutrition to support bone health and return from injury.

Reduce GI distress during long efforts by gradually training your gut to tolerate fuel at race intensity.

Nutrition to support muscle gain, power and conditioning blocks — focused on performance outcomes, not the scale.

An honest, evidence-based look at what's worth taking — caffeine, creatine, beta-alanine, nitrates — and third-party-tested options for drug-tested athletes.

Review of iron, ferritin, vitamin D and other labs with your physician, and food-first strategies to correct deficiencies that sap performance.

Engaging nutrition talks for teams, run clubs, coaches and parents — from high school programs to adult endurance groups.
Many hard-working athletes don't eat enough to match their training — sometimes on purpose, often by accident. Over time this can lead to Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S): fatigue, stalled progress, frequent illness, stress fractures and missed periods. As a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, Dr. Reutzel is uniquely equipped to recognize under-fueling early and help athletes build the energy availability they need to perform and stay healthy.

Common Questions
"Registered Dietitian" is a protected credential that requires an accredited degree, a supervised clinical internship, a national board exam, and ongoing continuing education. In Nebraska, dietitians are also licensed as Medical Nutrition Therapists (LMNT). "Nutritionist" has no standard requirements in most states.
No referral is needed. If you'd like to submit a Superbill to your insurance, some plans do require a physician referral for medical nutrition therapy — check with your insurer before your first visit.
No. Dr. Reutzel uses a weight-inclusive approach, focusing on behaviors and outcomes that improve health and performance rather than on weight itself. Research shows this leads to more sustainable improvements and a better relationship with food.
Absolutely. Whether you're training for your first 5K, a Half Ironman, or a high school season, good fueling makes training feel better and helps you avoid injury and burnout.
Yes. Secure video appointments are available for clients located in Nebraska, and in-person visits are available at the Omaha office.
Recent lab results if you have them, a list of medications and supplements, and — for athletes — your typical training week and any upcoming races or competitions.
